As Writing Center coaches, we won't proofread or "correct" your papers, but we will offer one-on-one instruction in writing at all levels.
We won't proofread student papers, but we will work with your students on issues of proofreading and editing. We can also help with brainstorming, organization, development, writing from research, and much more at any stage of the writing process. We work best with students who come on their own and make a commitment to come weekly whether or not they have an assignment due.

Email: Jennifer Lawrence, (jlwrnc@vt.edu) Assistant Director of the Writing Center
Are you interested in writing and helping other students improve their writing? Maybe you should become a Writing Center Coach! You do not need to be an English major. We can use all sorts of majors, since we help with all types of writing assignments.
To qualify for a position in the Writing Center, you must first take English 3744: Writing Center Theory and Practice. This course (for an application to enroll in the course, contact Jennifer Lawrence for more information) includes an internship in the writing center. Once you complete this course with a B or higher you will be eligible to apply for a paid coaching position the following semester. Students in this course gain experience by working as coaches in the Writing Center for a total of thirty hours during the semester, in addition to twenty hours of class time (and additional class work).
This is a serious course but a rewarding experience--something that can go on a resume or a grad school application.
FOR MORE INFO: Contact Jennifer Lawrence, 231-8469, jlwrnc@vt.edu, or stop by the Writing Center.
